Ashes

My dad died at the start of Covid in 2020. We were in first lockdown at the time of the funeral. I have had his ashes at home ever since. I always imagined spreading them in Scotland as he is from there. Others say I should bury them with my mums ashes (we planted a tree and put her ashes in the ground). After twenty years the tree is huge and the ground is like concrete it is so hard and compacted. I thought about dividing them, taking some to Scotland as we are going this week and burying some but I honestly don't think we will get through the ground. The tree is in a churchyard so we can hardly drive a digger through! Any ideas please?

Did he ever mention a preference? If he’d said Scotland then I would take them there, I feel a bit funny about the idea of splitting them for some reason.
You could scatter some under the tree and water them in? Who is saying to put him with DM though? If you want to scatter him in Scotland I think that makes sense. We still have FIL here (also Scottish) as DH has had to cancel the trip up there twice but that is where he will be scattered eventually.

Thanks @Oopsilot the thing is he never said anything about his ashes. He did always talk about places in Scotland so that was my reasoning. It was his idea to bury my mums ashes under the tree.
I guess I would need permission from the church to start trying to dig a hole by the tree. Honestly the ground is as solid as concrete.

I don’t know whether you’re still reading this thread, but how about planting some daffodils in some of his ashes around the tree? They’re really hardy plants, come back beautiful each year, and grow practically anywhere.

Ps, the ground will probably be softer coming into autumn/winter, and Daffs need planting around November.

@Honeyroar That's such a good idea thank you! He really loved daffodils. I hope the ground will get softer. Will the ashes be ok with bulbs do you know?
