I'm so, so sad
She was 86 so she had a good life. She had been poorly for a number of years although she had continued to live in her own home.
Ended up in hospital a fortnight ago because I found her unresponsive in bed. She had developed diabetes as a complication of her cancer. There was nothing to be done but they brought her round with glucose.
She desperately wanted to be at home and I managed to sort that for her. Brought her home on Thursday night and she was so glad to be in her own home again.
She deteriorated over the weekend but I continued to care for her with her partner and my Aunt. We had the wonderful support of the palliative care team for general care and end of life medication to ensure she was comfortable.
I was there all day Sunday with my aunt and her partner. She wasn't conscious but we were there, talking to her, stroking her hair etc. I slept on the sofa next to the hospital bed which had been put in the front room. We were awake and with her as she took her last breaths and passed away just before 6am yesterday.
She was an absolutely amazing lady, we were so close and I am absolutely devastated
I will miss her so, so much. She had such an interesting life - living through WW2 as a child, working in the mill before getting married and having her children. She took a lot of joy from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A wonderful cook as well. Never complained about anything and had a wonderful character.
It's so hard to think I will never see her again
