Nightmares

4 years on and I am still having awful nightmares.
I am, I think, ready to venture into some counselling, but I am so fearful that things may get worse before they get better.
My peer supporter from CRUSE suggested EMDR might be helpful, so I have searched for a counsellor qualified in this. (I had six weeks telephone support in the first year from CRUSE).
Has anybody had positive experiences?

My auntie had very distressing memories of my uncle's last illness and EMDR helped her hugely with that. At the time it was pretty new so I was surprised to hear that something that frankly sounded like witchcraft was helping my elderly, Northern, down to earth aunt!

Thank you 17bananas.
I am almost paralysed with fear at the thought of trying to talk to anybody about my grief. It is almost as if I need to keep it down because it is so painful and overwhelming.

I also had awful nightmares, when I managed to sleep.
Bereavement counselling helped.

I can recommend a brilliant lady in Kent. I didn’t do full EMDR. She stopped my nightmares after the first appointment.

Thank you all for your replies.
I am a long way from Kent, but I have found a local counsellor who offeres EMDR. I just need to pluck up the courage to make an appointment.

EMDR is associated with negative affects and no evidence of positive ones.

Correction my aunt had EFT not EMDR. Got my acronyms mixed up there.
