Is she losing her baby again - anything she can take to stop it? help!

A friend of mine is pregnant for the second time. Her first pregnancy ended after about 8/9 weeks after a brown discharge, then a lot of heavy spotting and then a scan confirmed the worst. She is now about 6 weeks and a light brown discharge has started again ? exactly what happened last time although a few days later this time. Is there anything she can do to stop this happening again or is it too late? What is the aspirin that you take in early pregnancy? Could she start taking it now? I?ve read a few threads where people have miscarried and then been advised to take the aspirin and have successfully had a child after this ?treatment?. Does anyone know more on this subject? What is it called? She doesn?t have any children and is desperate ? the first miscarriage has changed her so much I dread to think what will happen if she loses this baby too. Please if you have any advice, let me know asap. Thank you.

i think the aspirin stuff is when women have something called anti phospholipid syndrome - but you shouldn't take aspirin without being properly diagnosed as it can cause problems itself (ie miscarriage). she'd need a blood test to see if she has aps but probably wouldn't be referred until 2 - more likely 3 miscarriages

Sorry to hear your friends news Bugzi.

Some women do take a low-dose aspirin every day for the first three months of their pgs - wouldn't recommend it without professional advice, although I did it after my second pg ended in m/c.

I have to say if she is losing this pregnancy already aspirin isn't going to help .

Hope everything works out. x E

Thanx bundle and enid for your replies. I just feel desperate for her at the moment. Did a lot of investigating yesterday and I think she lacks progesterone ? have told her to eat yams as this was the only food I could find that was remotely connected to being a source of natural progesterone. If anyone knows different, please tell me as I?d hate to give her the wrong advice and cause even more problems. For the time being the ?bleeding? has stopped although apparently exactly what happened last time and then it came back with a vengeance. Let?s just keep our fingers crossed and see what happens. As you say, if it?s already started then there is nothing we can do now to stop it. Poor thing. Will keep you posted and thanx again for your help.

Bugzi, am so sorry your friend is going through this. My heart goes out to her. Will keep my fingers crossed.

Bugzi...I feel awful for your friend, please let us know if she is OK. But I agree asparin would not help so early and without medical guidance it should never be taken regularly without medical supervision.

gglimpopo, i'm taking cyclogest as part of fertility treatment I'm 10 weeks now and will take until 12 weeks. The clinic dont routinely give it for 12, usally only for 2 but after my last 2 m/s i asked if I could have more having read about it on here. I take 2 a day and was wondering whether to go onto 1 a day and carry on for longer? Any thoughts?

DelGirl · 22/09/2004 18:38

sorry meant m/c not m/s

She can only really wait and see this time, I think. But she doesn't need to panic. I had steady brown spotting for weeks and weeks with this pregnancy, and one day with quite heavy bleeding, but I'm 19 weeks now and getting kicked A LOT. At least half of cases of pregnancy bleeding do not indicate miscarriage. I hope your friend is in the right 50% this time. I think she should go to the Early Pregnancy Unit in her nearest hospital for a scan.

Interesting feature though Twiglett.

Bugzi,
I had the brown discharge and m/c, she maybe fine but I would say go to the hosp for a scan, as i am sure she is stressing about the pregnancy, which is not good for her.. she can put her mind at ease.. let us know what the out come is..

Bugzi · 27/09/2004 15:38

Just to keep you all updated. She went for a scan today (as she started losing blood again over the weekend) and she 6 weeks 3 days. They found a heartbeat and say the bleeding could be "implantation bleeding". She's going for another scan on the 5th Oct, so lets hope all is well at that scan too (last time this is when they found out the baby no longer had a heart beat). Please all just keep your fingers crossed. xxx

PS Thanx again for all your posts with interesting info. Twiglett, I had actually already read that article from a previous thread (posted by you) and thought it was fascinating. Certainly something worth looking into should she need to.....hopefully not though.xxx

Once you've seen the heartbeat the risk of miscarriage drops dramatically. Of course it's possible for things to go wrong at any stage, but it really is much, much less likely now. The bleeding could continue for a while but lots of bleeding is essentially meaningless. It was nice when mine stopped though! 20 week scan tomorrow! Fingers crossed for your friend.

MINNIE1 · 27/09/2004 21:25

Bugzi, thats brill news so happy for her.. Will keep finger crossed and let us know how she gets on...

Bugzi · 12/10/2004 13:04

I really hope I'm not "jinxing" her but she is now 9.3 and doing well - still losing a bit of blood. Scan last week went well and she is feeling sick - so quite positive. Not saying too much just yet, just hoping and praying they'll be ok.
