Honed or polished granite for ashes memorial stone?

Hi, my husband's ashes have already been buried and to choose the memorial stone I picked one I liked in the garden of remembrance where he is and went with that. I know the colour it is but am not sure if it's polished or honed. I know honed is more matt, but when i went to look today it had rained, so the stone was wet and i couldn't tell. I felt it and it felt very smooth like it would be shiney. Would honed feel slightly rough?
The funeral director who did the funeral/burial of ashes is going to be arranging the stone but the stone i liked in the cemetary was arranged by a different FD. They told me which colour it was and quoted me, but as I'm not going with them i don't like to ring back and ask about honed/polished!
Hope this makes sense!

I'm having a gravestone done for my parents right now and have been faced with the same question. My understanding is that honed is still perfectly flat, just not highly reflective- I suppose like the difference between gloss and Matt paint. I've gone for honed over polished because I think it's a more rustic, churchyardy appearance, but it's really personal preference I think.

Thank you. I think i might prefer the look of honed too. Do you know if polished is more hardwearing/easier to clean than honed? I know gravestones tend to wear better because the rain runs off them whereas memorial stones are flat so it stays on them.

Sorry for the late reply aventurine - and sorry too for your loss, I should have said that before.

I live Ina different country to where the gravestone will be standing so I do need something that will manage with little maintenance. The mason did say that honed would be good for this, but I think that might be precisely because it's more rustic and traditional anyway, so doesn't need to look like a polished kitchen surface all the time.

We have polished granite and gold lettering on my father's headstone. He died 34 years ago and it is in perfect condition. All the maintenance it has is an occasional wipe down. Other headstones around him are showing their age especially sandstone which has faded and has moss on.
