it's the 2nd. last year was fecking awful. i'm an only child and my mum lives in the same town as me. it will just be her, me , dh and ds this year. it would be nice to do something special to remember him - something life affirming and fun. we'll have mass said for him anyway - this is just something for us 4 so we don't spend the whole day moping - not something he would have approved of. anyone with similar experiences who could give me any suggestions? would be very grateful!

take ds to the park? that way he gets to run off excess energy and you might even enjoy the fresh air.....

is there something he particularly liked doing? a nice restaurant or a place he liked to go for walks?

maybe you could all go out for a meal, raise a glass to him and then go and visit somewhere he liked to go (like a park, something like that?).

ah, well, he is only 9 mo. should have mentioned that! he likes watching the bigger kids though!

well, that's 2 for the park. always nice and we live near a national trust place. meal would be good too.

it's better to get out isn't it - otherwise the temptation is to sit inside and mope (not that there's anything wrong with that, but you know what I mean!).

The National Trust place sounds perfect.

do they have baby swings? he seems a bit young for running about

nickytwotimes · 11/05/2007 20:08

well, he is very advanced, doncha know!?
yes, i think we will go to the park and maybe a nice lunch out. shame he's not here to pay for it! - sorry we are a family of undertakers and like to make inappropriate comments!
thanks for your input

My Dad's anniversary is in July and my Mum always goes to the park where there is a parkbench with his name & dates on a plaque -(it's instead of a headstone because he was cremated.) She goes and cleans the pigeon poo off it and then sits and reads her Oldie magazine. I can't go with her as I live 5 hours' drive away.

nickytwotimes · 11/05/2007 20:28

i like the way she reads her mag! possibly what she used to do in his company if she's like my mum!

Oh no, I bought her the Oldie subscription after Dad died. They used to play scrabble together, in fact they did that the evening before he died.
