I have just had my third miscarriage in a year. Has anyone ever had that many in a row and gone on to have a baby? I have to confess I'm starting to feel really down about it. I don't want my daughter to be an only child.

yes, dont dispair. My sister had two children, then 3 miscarriages and then another son - who weighed a whopping 11lbs at birth ! After the miscarriages she saw a nutritionist who did a hair mineral analysis that showed she was really defficient in Zinc. She took mega supplements for 3 months and followed a great diet and then hey presto - a full term whopping baby boy ! Dont dispair and maybe consider seeing a nutrionist.Good luck.

My diet has always been very good, maybe I should try to see one, I'm willing to do anything

of course there's no 'proof' that the zinc did the job...but maybe worth giving it a go. Her diet wasn't bad but I think her body was a bit run down from having 2 other children close together. I think she also had accupuncture and reflexology.

Do you know how they might have helped?

am really sorry to hear that paula

i think once you have had 3 miscarriages, you can have investigations done ,

are you miscarrying the same time in each pregnancy

have you been investigated for any blood clotting issues which can affect being able to carry a baby

Mumpbump · 30/04/2007 16:48

So sorry... Push your doctor to get you referred. They will investigate after 3 consecutive m/c.

paulaplumpbottom · 30/04/2007 16:50

The first one and this one were at 6 weeks and the one in January was at 10 weeks. I haven't had this last one confimred by the doctor so will they still investigate. I did have several positive tests.

My doctor said to me that the fact that my two m/c occurred at different points in the pg's was a good sign in that it suggested it was just bad luck rather than a problem. Maybe the same for you? But I think you should definitely get it checked out properly at this stage... Best of luck!

I suppose thats true

Tis is really sad to read, I am sorry for your losses and really can empathise.
I had three miscarriages and almost gave up hope. But we then found an amazingly supportive doctor who sent me for tests and said I have an incompetent cervix. When I got pregnant again I had a cerclage, which is by no means a guarantee but can help. it certinly worked for us. I assume you are seeing a specialist now? If not switch your G.P to one who is more undestanding, it can make all the difference.

Do remember you have a beautiful daughter right now and that is the most amazing thing in the world. Wether she will have a brother or sister time can only tell but my fingers are crossed for you.

paulaplumpbottom · 30/04/2007 17:07

Whats a cerclage?

It is a stitch you can have in your cervix. It helps reduce the risk of premature dilation, which is the cause of miscarriage for some women.

MrsMcJnr posted a beautiful poem (made me cry!) that she read about trying again on the TTC after m/c thread (in the conception section) and I posted it on the pg after m/c thread (in the pregnancy section). I won't put it here in case it's not the sort of thing you want to read, but if I were still ttc, I would have found it encouraging. Worth tracking down imo...
