So sorry to hear about your loss

I would just do some basic buffet food - butties, pies, sausage roll, quiche, salad etc I don't think anyone would expect anything fancy from a wake.

So sorry to hear about your loss.

I went to funeral tea in a church hall and it was lovely. There were sandwiches, quiches, pies, sausages, and cakes, and copious amounts of tea and coffee. I think it was the church volunteers (catholics) who did it.

Cremolafoam · 13/07/2012 15:47

Thanks
Quiche is a good idea
Feel like the world has stopped, but need to do something practical .
Do people expect a drink? Alcohol?

So sorry. Can you get m and s sarnies and sausage rolls etc?

StealthPolarBear · 13/07/2012 15:49

IME Peope do expect a drink but you're not catering for a 'party' a few drinks will be fine.

Sirzy · 13/07/2012 15:49

I wouldn't expect anything more than a cup of tea, but have been to funerals with alcoholic drinks too. I think that's a case of what the family want with no right or wrong

renaldo · 13/07/2012 15:52

lots of tea, maybe some wine?
and bite sized food so people can chat and eat

Cremolafoam · 13/07/2012 17:04

Thanks. All good suggestions.

M & S do (or did) platters of different sandwiches, I would go with those and then add bits in.

I would also maybe do some scones and cake.

Surely they will have a couple of big urns in the church hall which you could use for tea and coffee?

Am sorry about your friend Sad

So sorry about your friend.

Could you get some pre-ordered food in rather than stressing over making it?

Greggs have started doing sandwich platters, cheaper than M&S and Waitrose.

Cremolafoam · 13/07/2012 19:17

Have ordered from marks
And making some extra tray bakes.
Weird how your brain gives up at these crucial times.
Thanks everyone.Smile

You're a brilliant friend, it will go well and folks will appreciate it.

So sorry,

Have you got a cost co nearby? Their sandwiches, cakes etc are good and in suitable quantities.

You're very kind to be helping in this way, so sorry for your loss.
Xxx

You mention you have a team standing by ... as well as ordering from Marks people will ask if they can help - you can ask people to do different things eg:
Person 1 cake
person 2 cake
Person 3 scotch eggs (cut into eights for easy eating)
Person 4: squash and plastic cups
etc etc

I think some wine is nice - but only if its affordable - and adds to organisation as plastic glasses required - people can always go for a drink at local pub afterwards if they feel the need.
