How long until the end?

I think my grandma is dying, had a phone call yesterday from care home, she is being sick, can't swallow or talk and her eyes are glazed.
I'm presuming death is imminent? I don't live near and won't be able to get there until late tomorrow. Does anyone know if that might be too late?

I don't know Isla but I am sorry. Hold her in your thoughts and she will know you are with her.

Isla have the care home staff suggested death may be imminent? IME at a nursing home, staff get very experienced in knowing when a patient doesn't have long left to live (when they are dying of 'old age' iyswim). The patient often sleeps for a very long time, barely opening their eyes, when eyes are open they are not focussing on anything, their hands and feet may become cold to touch, their pulse becomes weaker, their breathing changes... Have you asked them outright / do you feel able to ask them? Lack of swallowing reflex is common when a patient approaches death, not sure about being sick.

If you can't get there until tomorrow then there is nothing you can do, but I have known patients go for 24/48 hours in the state described above even down to the unusual breathing.

Hope this all goes as gently as possible for her and you and your family.

Don't know Isla but just wanted to let you know Prayers and thoughts are with you all.

My mum was in a coma after a stroke for 6 days she was still alive although but gone never comng back, But we noticed her breathing started to become more spaced out but this could be very different to your grand mas situation x
