I want to send a card to the grandmother (woman I work with closely) but is that right or wrong? I was thinking of a blank card and writing my own words but what to say? how to say anything that will bring any comfort? There surely are none. But I can't do or say nothing.

Can anyone help?

Didn't want your post to go unanswered: yes send a card, a blank one, write in it exactly what you have said here i.e "I know there is nothing that I can say or do that will bring any comfort, but you and your family are very much in my thoughts".

thanks cc, I have round and round in my head what is the right thing to do. I've been with her through every moment of her dd's pregnancy, I feel devastated so god only knows how she is breathing in and out today. So so sad.

My dd was stillborn at 41 weeks in October 2010.My mum has some very good friends who texted her, rung her and sent her cards. It helped a lot as my mum and family also needed acknowledgement of their loss of their grandaughter .I think whatever you write will be appreciated as its heartfelt [oh, no platitudes they just make you mad!!!].

I think the poem about the snowdrop is perfect for writing in a card like that... I would probably get a blank card and just put in it the first part:-

The world may never notice if a snowdrop doesn't bloom,or even pause to wonder if the petals falls too soon.
But every life that ever forms,or ever comes to be, touches the world in some small way for all eternity.

Then write a personal message.
