Urgent help please re funeral poem

My grandfather sadly passed away last week and it's his funeral tomorrow.

There will be the opportunity for people to say something, if they wish.

I thought I had decided not to, but my DSis has suggested I take a piece with me in case I change my mind.

I'm looking for a poem read at my other grandfather's funeral by my cousin. The gist is "don't remember me like I was at the end, remember me how I was in life". (DGF had a series of illnesses which meant he deteriorated over a few years and became a shell of the man we knew )

I think it mentions being in a hospital bed too.

Please can anyone help me find it before I have to leave tomorrow (Friday) at around midday?

no clue sorry, but hope someone can help.
assume you've tried googling random words - "funeral poem remember life" etc?

Shitemum · 03/03/2011 22:25

Have googled for you but not sure, couldnt you ask your cousin?

Shallishanti · 03/03/2011 22:26

I was in a similar situation, and discovered there were some ws that featured poems suitable for funerals, I can't remember what they were though.
If you could remember a distinctive line or phrase google will find it for you

I don't think this is the one you're looking for sayjay, but it's a similar kind of message

You can shed tears that he is gone,
Or you can smile because he lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
Or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember him and only that he is gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on,
You can cry and close your mind be empty and turn your back,

Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

So sorry to hear of your Grandfather

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave bereft
I am not there. I have not left.

Just googling funeral poems and found this:

Not how did he die, but how did he live?
Not what did he gain, but what did he give?
These are the units to measure the worth
of a man as a man, regardless of birth.

Not, what was his church, nor what was his creed?
But had he befriended those really in need?
Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer,
to bring back a smile, to banish a tear?

Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
but how many were sorry when he passed away

After an illness

God looked around his garden
And He found an empty place.
And then He looked down upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.

He put His arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain,
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered"Peace be thine."

It broke our hearts to lose you .
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

Thank you so much for your efforts everyone, and your kind words.

Another poster on the chat thread found it for me.

This is it:

Weep not for me though I am gone;
into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will but not for long,
upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am at peace,
my soul's at rest.
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was blessed;
for all those many years.
There is no pain,
I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts.
In your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath;
remember not the strife.
Please do not dwell upon my death,
but celebrate my life.
-- Constance Jenkins

It's perfect for him, and now I've re-read it I'll have to read it I think.

Once again, thank you all :)

or this one?

"Remember Me"
Remember me with love, not tears,
and think of all of our happy years.
When I was sick, you were at my side
Your tears and fears, you tried to hide..
I know you did your best for me,
but God above was calling me.
The tears with time, will go away,
but the love we shared will always stay.
Now the Lord has set me free,
that is how I want you to remember me...

That gentle breeze that made the wind chimes sing? That was me, I was there with you.
The gentle snow falling upon your tears?
That was me, I was there with you.
And that little beam of sunlight that danced on the
otherwise shaded deck that day?
That was me, I was there with you.

Until we're back together, never more to be apart. Remember me with love, I left my paw print on your heart.
Wherever you are going and whatever you may do,
Just look down right beside you, I will be there next to you.

One day in the future just over the ridge, I'll be waiting for you, standing on Rainbow Bridge.
Remember and Believe. I will love you forever.
