Nina Simone, Who Knows Where The Time Goes:

"Across the evening sky, all the birds are leaving
But how can they know it's time for them to go?
...
Sad, deserted shore, your fickle friends are leaving
Ah, but then you know it's time for them to go
But I will still be here, I have no thought of leaving
I do not count the time
For who knows where the time goes?
Who knows where the time goes?

And I am not alone while my love is near me
I know it will be so until it's time to go
So come the storms of winter and then the birds in spring again I have no fear of time
For who knows how my love grows?
And who knows where the time goes"

My deepest sympathies.

I'm probably too late to add a suggestion, but I've always loved the song Annie Lennox sang for the Return of the King: "Into the West" Utterly beautiful.

I'm so, so sorry for your loss Sad

I once heard someone say that if you are from the North of England then "brass band music is like stroking your soul". I am from London but adopted the north more than half my life ago and can only agree.

How about " That'll do (A Strong and Steady Hear)" by Peter Gabriel and the Black Dyke Band. I could not find the vocal version when I looked to download it, but the instrumental (brass) is gorgeous, and I think you might some meaning in the lyrics.

It is very personal to you. I can appreciate a little of what you are going through as a very good friend of mine had to organise her 2 day old son's funeral.

I'm so sorry. I would suggest

To where you are - Josh Grogan

Sean Lullaby - Eric Whiteacre

AppleHEAD · 04/01/2011 21:56

Elgar Cello Concerto

Gabriels Oboe from The Mission
Precious Child Karen Taylor Goode.

Probably way too late but I meant Seal Lullaby by Eric Whitacre.

spilttheteaagain · 08/01/2011 15:35

Another vote for
To where you are - Josh Groban
Tears in heaven - Eric Clapton

Much love, I hope you find some songs that are special for you x

ednurse · 08/01/2011 15:37

I don't know if anyone has already said this, but be careful of choosing any songs that you will hear a lot, for obvious reasons. The last thing you want is for the song to become really popular again and make you cry in every shop, also reserving a less well-known song will make remembering more special (if that makes sense?)

We had a funeral at the crematorium and a memorial / thanksgiving (for DTD2 who lived) in a church. The music we chose was:

Pleasure and pain, Ben Harper
Hymns: Amazing Grace, Give me joy in my heart, Colours of Day.

I hope it goes well, my thoughts are with you. :) xxx

There is a song by the Dixie Chicks which is perfect I think. They are a country group but the song is beautiful. It is about a little boy so perfect. It is called Godspeed (Sweet Dreams). Have a look at the lyrics and most important have a listen.

lulalullabye · 08/01/2011 15:49

Just realised that Godspeed has been said already Smile.

Haribojoe · 09/01/2011 18:49

So sorry for your loss.

Wonderful world - Louis Armstrong

Baby Mine - Bette Middler

goingmadinthecountry · 11/01/2011 22:39

So sorry for your loss.

My DTD died 15 years ago now aged 23 hours. She stayed alive in the womb despite a heart problem and that means we have our (usually) gorgeous dd2. We had the slow movement from Bach Double violin concerto at her funeral, also the Remember Me poem. Jim Croce's Time in a Bottle always gets to me. Also Helen Reddy - If I ever had to say goodbye to you.

With best wishes.

Sazisi · 11/01/2011 22:51

I'm so sorry.

By Your Side by Sade might be a good choice.

Best wishes xx

Newgolddream · 11/01/2011 23:22

madamimadam · 11/01/2011 23:37

CheeseandGherkins · 11/01/2011 23:44

So, so sorry for your loss :( We lost our baby in Dec too, she was stillborn at 37 weeks. We had her funeral a few days after Christmas. If you want to talk at all then please feel free to pm me or talk on here.

We had Tears in heaven by Eric Clapton and also Brahmm's lullaby. I had some poems read as well, I have a thread running also and I've posted them on there. There are lovely ones.

Thinking of you.
