Piano by nombers for a 5 year old, si it the right way to go ?

Hi, my 5 year old daughter loves music and has got several awards from school for her music. She loves playing the piano, well she calls it playing. She has great rythem and timing etc.
I found on line a sample of playing by nombers and she really took to it. She was delighted that she could play a song on her own.
She's going to have piano lessons when she's older, but will learning this way confuse her, or is it a good idea ?
Also, does anyone know where I can get this kind of sheet music, preferably for free. Do Cbeebies do one? She'd love to be able to play some Cbeebies tunes.

Please don't get her to play by numbers!

A teacher who is experienced with children of this age will be able to teach her in a musically appropriate way that is fun and engaging, age 5 is not too young.

Do find a teacher who LIKES teaching 5 year olds though, not all do. Whereabouts are you?

I'm in Torbay in Devon.

I thought this would be a fun way to learn. Would it confuse her ?

My daughter started to learn to play at 5 and loved it. The book she used had some numbers above the notes but her teacher tippexed them out as she said that children won't learn to read music properly if they are following numbers. She can now sight read and play just about anything you put in front of her (she's 7 now) and can play jazz and blues. My DD2 is starting to learn now - she has just turned 3.I think the key is finding the right teacher as they all teach in a different style. My DD1's piano teacher is not very formal and has taught her to improvise and write her own music as well as learning to read music and prepare for her grade1.

That sounds good. I'll have to find a good teacher.

I'd say no although it depends why she is wanting to play. If it's just for her own enjoyment and learning to play twinkle twinkle then it's fine, if it's because she loves the piano and wants to grow up playing an instrument and reading music then avoid numbers.

My brother teaches piano to children and he says that numbers can delay their ability to read music and really feel what they are doing.

Not sure if that helps really!

Thank you, I would like her to learn to read music so maybe it's not such a good idea.
I'll just look for a good teacher.

Suzuki piano is good, the British Suzuki Institute has a list of teachers

Thank you, I'll look it up.
