My 17 wk old had her immunisations yesterday. She was in quite a bit of pain and her legs went red so I gave her abit of calpol. She got grumpy when I tried to give her her midnight feed and then for the first time ever I had to wake her up this morning at 7.30(she usually wakes at 6). She went down for her morning nap at 9. She usually sleeps for half and hour but is still asleep now(10 45). I even tried to wake her for a feed. She opened her eys and then went striaght back to sleep. Should I fully wake her for a feed? Is this sleepiness normal? She wasn't this way for her 12 weeks jabs??

don't wake her up, if she is still sleeping after 4 h then you can try waking her for a feed. I think it is quite normal for children to sleep when ill or immnised, it helps with the recovery.

This made me chuckle slightly, as it took me back to when DS had his 8 week jabs. Having barely slept for the first two months of his life, he basically crashed out for 24 hours. But of course, instead of being able to enjoy the experience, I just sat there watching him and fretting for the entire day/night. With hindsight, it was the last chance I had for a decent bit of sleep for months . Sorry, I'm not meaning to sound flippant AT ALL, as I know it can be really worrying when your baby just sleeps and sleeps, but I think it's relatively normal, and if your baby shows no other signs of being unwell, then I'd just let her sleep.

(Oh, and by the way, my DS never did this again with any of the other jabs - they just seem to react differently to different vaccines.)

don't wake her!

ds did this with all his jabs (before 12 months)
i was hoping he'd do the same for his 12 and 13 month ones. no chance! no sign of any reaction to his jabs then and if anything more energy than ever but grumpy because his walking legs hurt!

she'll wake up ravenous so have food on hand as a post jabs baby has v little patience!

oos...woke her at about 11.30 and have just had chance to read these replies. I managed to give her a feed at least and now she has gone back to sleep. Glad to know this is normal. In fact it is nice to be given so much time. She is usually a bad napper....am enjoying this!

I remember after DD had her 12w jabs (or could have been 16w) she just fed and slept and fed and slept the rest of the day, and she hardly ever slept during the day, so it was a blessed relief! Was back to normal the next day though [sceptical]
