I would like to know if anyone has a similar issue with their DC. DD2 has always has a delayed reaction to the sun - generally the day after or sometimes the evening after exposure, she is covered in itchy rash that spreads all over her torso to places that weren't exposed to the sun. I've changed sun cream to Sunsense which seems to have helped a little. But she is still writhing around in bed each night till 9/10 o'clock unable to sleep for the itchiness and skin creeping. I give her piriton liquid at night and sometimes in the morning. I put Benedyrl cream on her. Her lips are also itchy and stinging all the time. Th morning after significant sun exposure, she has massive bags under eyes and is puffy and looks incredibly pale and tired. She is also the grumpiest child in the WHOLE world the day after. I just don't know what to do anymore. Help!

telfast paediatric tablest which are prescription only are really good for the itching, but are for over 6 years. Under 6 ...zirtek syrup is useful too and doesnt make them drowsy like piriton.

Hi Alypaly, thanks for replies - it's definitely not solar urticaria - the reaction takes much longer to start - usually around 6-12 hours. And it carries on for sometimes two weeks after first appearing even if she is exposed to NO sun during that period!!! Will buy some Zirtek syrup though - hadn't occurred to me that it might be the piriton making her tired.

Does she respond to antihistamines or is it quite a poor result.
