Hi there
My DS is four and a half months old, and I think teething has begun... he has bright red cheecks, is drooling and gumming down on anything available. He has been like this for a week or so, butthe past two days have been really quite unbearable... He has always been a fairly good sleeper, fights it a bit but usually five minutes of grizzling while we shush and pat him and he drops off.
However, now, he SCREAMS as soon as he sees we are approaching his cot, and can go a good 20 minutes or more - yesterday the only way I could get him to sleep was going for a drive in the car each time. I work from home, so am working whenever he sleeps or is entertaining himself on his playmat, jumperoo, etc, but am just so drained nd exhausted I will probably miss every deadline going!
We have given him this Braun natural medicine which calms him - until sleep. We have teething tings and the cold gel ones, but we have to hold them in his mouth as he hasnt control of his hands yet.
Any ideas, advice, stories etc??? Any idea how long this stage might last>???
Thanks so much in advance...

Have you ruled out some old fashioned pain relief? Calpol/Nurofen?
It will probably last until the teeth are through. Until the next time...

Good grief, give him some calpol or even better neurofen! He's in pain and just needs proper pain relief. Teething can cause some babies a lot of pain so I wouldn't faff about with natural remedies...

Thanks
To be honest, when it started I went to my nearest chemist, which s tiny and only had this natural stuff, so I just grabbed it. Like I say, it does seem to calm him down, but doesn' make him any more amenable to the idea of going to sleep, which is what we really want - he looks tired, despite sleeping through at night, he is not getting decent sleep through the day, the poor thing.
I might head out today and get some nurofen.

yes, calpol, nurofen, ibuprofen, and those fizzy powder things from boots natural range, which are FAB! And teething gel. And gin. (for you ). In my experience, this really bad bit only lasts a few weeks. Will he sleep if you put him in your bed? Might be worth a go just to get him down?

Nurofen v good for night use, it lasts a bit longer than calpol.

Also anebesol liquid, rub a little onto the gums and it temporarily numbs the pain.

My DS likes to chew on an icecube wrapped up in a muslin cloth. It seems to provide some relief and is a good option if the drugs don't work!

the only thing that settled our DS when he was like this was a light and souns show mobile thing that would distract him long enough for him to fall asleep. Its a Tomy star shaped thing, about £15 I think
