crying 16 month old (all day)! Help

I have a 3 year old and a 16 month old. He (the 16 month old) was a very happy baby until about 12 months. If he is with my partner or his grandparents when I work (only 2-3 days a week) he is fine. But when with me he moans and cry's all the time. It is soooo stressful. My health visitor told me he is over attached and to try giving him a teddy or something to carry around that smells of me. I can understand doing that with a little baby but he doesn't want to know! He has a dummy (which my girl never had) and literally has to have it all the time. I am also worried about his speech as he doesn't really say anything and my daughter said loads by now (maybe the dummy? or just a boy?)

Does anyone have any ideas on the crying or will he just grow out of it> Makes me so upset and can't do anything or even do anything nice with my elder daughter. HELP!! xx

Boys are often slower to speak than girls - my son was well over 2 before he could string sentences together. Dummies for comfort are very common. Is the crying full on with tears and everything or is it more that he's making a crying noise? If it's more 'noise' than 'distress' it could just be attention-seeking because he doesn't like you going away from him when you work. And if it makes you upset, he could be picking up on that as well of course - your expression, for example. I would try to get on with life as normal and do things with both your children. Not really 'ignoring' the crying but not giving it too much attention either. Good luck
