what does your 9/10 month old baby like playing with?

DD3 is just 10 months old, sitting well and nearly crawling but not quite there yet. She is uninterested in the stuff my 1st two liked at this age such as maracas and musical books etc. Her main aim in life is to get hold of bits of paper, pencil sharpeners, electric cables, teeny bits of polly pocket and any other bits and bobs. I try to get her interested in her own stuff but she just wants to play the same as her big sisters who are 4 and 5.

I was considering a trip to Toys r us to get something new - any recommendations? Dd is lovely and cuddly but very attached to me so I would love to find something to perhaps buy me 5 or 10 mins to make a cup of tea and go to the loo

DD is 9 months and plays with these for ages. No idea why as they look pretty boring to me but a friend passed them on and she takes them apart, bangs the shells together, piles them in the box, tips them out..... Gives me 10 mins for a cuppa .

Other than those it's mostly board books, some squidgy bath toys she likes to chew on and throw about and my keys/phone/wallet if she can get her hands on them although she does love her maracas and tambourine.

I bought my cousin's baby these when he was born. She popped them in a cupboard and forgot about them until he was about 8mths old.

She emailed me recently to say that they are the very very best thing that she has been given as he plays with them for hours.

My DS loved them as well, that is why I thought of them.

Oh yeah and my friend also passed on a box full of different material swatches - again I wasn't convinced but she will spend ages waving them around and tipping them out of the box then putting them back one by one. She is a strange child .

My 10 mo loves: stacking rings and cups (very cheap from supermarket), small wooden blocks, any balls especially a soft velour one, a pair of rag dolls (carried around everywhere, always as a pair), postcards (!), envelopes, any bits of fabric (particularly clothes if she can get her hands on them), her shoes, any shoes, black socks, i-phones, wet wipes packets (preferably starting off full, then rapidly emptied), washing machine, cat flap, cat bowls, wooden ornament cat, books (hers and mine, preferably starting off on a low shelf), kitchen roll tubes (and toilet roll tubes unless health visitor round), pans, spoons, cushions, keys, wallets, handbags, stairgates, light switches, computer mouse and keyboard.
Some of these can be played with for ages and ages. But very unpredictable how long it might be. She usually comes with me to the loo (oh, add toilet flush to the list).

thank you - I have the box of eggs somewhere in the playroom, must find . I think she'd love the fabric idea too, thanks.

thank you, yes dd1 had a treasure basket and it was lovely. I really do think I'm losing my memory as totally forgot about this. I've jsut been to Asda and got some cheapy stacking cups and linking rings which dd seems very pleased with. omg! dd has just pulled to stand for the first time - oh god... on the coffee table! lots of 'illicits' there... of to get my camera!
