hi my ds is 2.6 at his 2 year review my hv was very pleased with his speech and said i should continue talking to him as normal and so long as he steadily improves alls well. well he has he says more and more not always recognisable words but he tries. but my mum says he should be talking more by now in short sentences? any advice anyone? its 6 months til his next check and just want ot be sure-when your mother doubts you tend to too!
thanks

At this stage I think there should be a lot more clearly recognisable words even if he's not stringing particularly complicated sentences together. Sometimes the trouble is that we know what they mean, even if no-one else does Encourage him to put things in sentence form ... e.g. 'bikit' doesn't get the biscuit but 'biscuit please mummy' does.

If you wanted some expert reassurance or advice then GPs are always glad to see you.

I was in a similar situatin. I went to see an audiologist for 6-8 months at each visit every 2 months they said he had a cold and that was effecting his ears.

I was his mother, I knew something was not right and I followed my gut instinct. To cut a long story short my little boy needed grommets and soon after the insertion there was a massive massive improvement in his speech.

Its your child if you feel something is not right then SHOUT for help.

good luck
