DS can't pronounce Vs or Ls, should we be worried?

He's nearly 4 and still says "bery much" instead of "very much", and "wittle" instead of "little" etc.

I think it's insanely cute and assume he'll grow out of it but he's starting school soon and wondering if he'll have problems?

ds1 cant say v, f, l, g and y, he is 5, when he started school in sept they started in-house speech therapy and he is now doing really well. I felt guilty as I hadnt picked it up earlier, but he is making good improvements and can now say f and v, but still struggles with the rest. It may be worth talking to his preschool or hv to be on the safe side.

Just noticed his age, the speech therapist who came to assess ds1 said that l,y, f and v were the last sounds that children develop, at around 3 to 3 and a half, so it may be worth waiting to see. They advised repeating the word back correctly, but not making it a big issue, this seems to have worked

My SALT info also says these sounds are often late to develop. My DD is 3 and can't say 'V' or 'L' either - I get her to copy me in the mirror!

I wouldn't worry just yet - I'm also guilty for thinking it is cute and saying things like 'yittle' instead of 'little' myself which I know isn't helpful!!

Thank you everyone - I wasn't entirely convinced I should worry about it yet. Amusingly we were playing around last night and got him to say "la la la" properly, so we said try "la la la lion" and we got "la la la wion".

So he can technically pronounce them, but generally doesn't! I guess he'll grow out of it.
