He's weeing everywhere and driving me crazy

My DS 2.9 has been toilet trained since about new year. I didnt push him into it to start with, he wanted to wee/poo on the toilet and I was happy to go with it. He was doing brilliantly and I was amazed at how easy it was. We only had the occasional accident, but remained in a nappy at bedtime.

Now its like he's regressed, he literally doesnt bother to tell me when he wants to go anymore, he just lets go and wees wherever we are, whatever he is doing.

If I ask him if he wants to go/actually take him to the toilet he most often refuses point blank to sit on toilet or potty. He will wet himself minutes later, and climb out of his clothes.

Im so sick of doing the nice mummy thing, "nevermind, oh an accident" whatever, its starting to drive me a bit crazy and its making me mad with him. Mainly because he keeps weeing on the sofa or the carpet or anywhere, in Tesco/Boots at friends houses... you name it. I dont know what to do except put him back in a nappy full time.

Can anyone help? please please... Oh he poos with no problem at all and will tell me when he needs to go...

If it is any consolation my DD did just this. I actually thought she was taking the mickey at the end, and it was a power thing, but I just kept doing as you are and it passed. I know how you feel as she weed from her steps, on the floor, when frustrated, angry, you name it. She then passed through it as quickly as it came, if you'll excuse the pun!

Runoutofideas · 29/06/2010 18:11

My dd does exactly the same - been potty trained for about 9 months - hardly any accidents at all for the first 3 months, so I know she can do it, but now she wets her knickers all the time. Never poo accidents though, which I suppose is a bonus. We try star charts, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. The only thing that slightly works is just taking her to the loo and saying "right, you need to do a wee before we go to x". Most of the time she'll do one and accident can be avoided, but she seems to have given up on just taking herself to the loo when she needs to....

DD is still only 14mo so no direct experience, but from what you've said, I wonder whether it's partly that they are very aware of it to start with and very proud of themselves. Then they get to the stage that the novelty wears off and they sort-of don't 'realise' that they have to keep doing this for the rest of their lives. Eventually, of course, it becomes second nature.

I did wonder if it was a boy thing, but all the responses to this thread have been from folk with a DD...! LOL

LOve him to bits but Im getting a bit fed up apologising everywhere we go.

Today we went through 3 pairs of pants and shorts, and weed on the floor in the lounge and on the sofa at least 3 times.

sigh...........

Aigh · 16/09/2023 18:04

Pull-ups until he's reliably dry again. Treat them like pants and have a spare for accidents.

NoKnit · 16/09/2023 19:01

It does stop at some point. My oldest was 7 when stopped fully and my youngest still at it now and he is 7. The end is in sight I know. It is a lot more common than you might think. No amounts of rewards have worked on youngest so far.

i think the main thing is not feeling alone has helped massivley my 7 year old was fully trained by 4 no accidents he has had the odd one in a few years but just not as bad as my 5 year old im just fed up of waking up in pee its not nice and it is driving me crackers any advice on things i could buy that will mask the smell and it looks like we will have to go into pull ups when his at home he goes to the toilet fine at school but just wants to send me crackers at home with it

NoKnit · 17/09/2023 16:38

You're not alone.

Ignore the suggestions about Nappies you can't do that to a 5 year old. Even if they were cloth they just don't care enough yet.

Hang in there will get better. If you've had kids that don't have this issue then you never really understand it

Just realised this is a ZOMBIE THREAD.

The LO is now old enough to go to the Pub and buy a drink.

NoKnit · 17/09/2023 19:27

Actually it was rekindled by a woman having problems with her 5 year old yesterday
