Co-sleeping and transition to cot

Hello

Following an earlier post, where it was suggested that I try co-sleeping with my four week old to help with night time crying/distress, I was wondering if any of you would be willing to share your experiences.

This is my second child, and co-sleeping is clearing working a treat for her, as she immediately seems so content and relaxed when we try it. However, it is not something that I did with my first, so I have no experience of the longer term. I'd like to think that when she is old enough to sleep through, we can make the transition from our bed to her own room.

When did you make the transition, did it cause your baby distress, and if so how did you overcome this. And most importantly - how do they sleep in the longer term (i.e. are they wanting to be in your bed all the time and do they wake more in the night!!)

Call me selfish, but as lovely as it is to snuggle in with a tiny baby, I'd quite like to get my bed back in a few months, haha

Both ours co-slept with me in the early months - what we did was take one of the sides off the cot and when I wanted to start the transition shoved it against our bed then rolled DD and later DS into the cot part of our now extended bed IYSWIM! Both children gradually got used to the cot and then I put the side back on eventually and then changed rooms - worked no problems for us - it was a gradual transition done over a number of weeks but both children were fairly unfazed by the move - I do know others have had problems with doing this so I guess maybe it depends on the children?

Good luck with the co-sleeping, got to admit I miss the lovely cuddles - although the sleep is a blessed relief!
