8 Month check up

Hi all,

My DD is almost 8 months and is due for her 8 month check up. I've heard all sorts of stories about what is expected for your lo at this check up and am begining to think I've not pushed/stimulated her enough. I know a couple of mums who have postponed their check ups regularly as they are worried they will "fail" the check.

So any ideas on what this check is actually about?

my HV came to the house for her 8 month check up and i didnt know what was going to be asked or anything so to be honest i didnt think too much about it, anyways she just asked me generally how we were both doing etc, she did ask me if baba is sitting yet? i said um kin of lol shes still wobbly though still need to hold her up, she asked if shewas crawling i said no, asked if she rolled over herself i said no not really, and then asked if she was saying any words or putting words together and i said no! she still just laughs and talks gobbledeegook!! she also askd if she was using her hands to lift things up, and if she was intereseted in her surroundings and recognising people she knows, which she does.
dont worry about it, i said no to most of her questions and she didnt seem concerned, just said all babys were different!
i did have a HV before this one i seen who was a right bitch and made me feel like a usuless mother, just had a chip on her shoulder.
but this one im seeing is great and assured me everything im doing and that she is doing is fine!
she also just talked about classes i could go to, bla bla bla and gave me a few books, and a few books for DD.
dont worry it will be fine x

Wow, you have an 8 month check?? We don't see anyone and if you really need to, it's several weeks to even get a phone call returned. There's one hour a fortnight when you can get them weighed.
Anyway, off topic, I'm sure it'll be fine!

Thanks GlasgowMandy, it would appear that I socialise with a lot of paranoid moms!

It's not the GCSEs, seriously. It's not about things you can teach your baby, it's to see that there aren't any health problems or disabilities popping up, or even concerns that you have that you might want to talk to them about.

In my case, there was some cause for concern- but then not going to the tests wouldn't have stopped that. And I never had the feeling I was being blamed for anything.
