I currently have 5 yr old DS3 screaming his head off in his room. All because i asked him to have a drink before I got him a snack after school. He needed a drink because he has barely had one all day and it is roasting outside.

This particular tantrum is no doubt something to do with him being dehydrated, but he seems to be tantruming and being completely stubborn about most things these days.

Methods we normally use are sitting on the stairs until he has calmed down. Taking a toy away for a certain period of time if he really pushes it and putting him up in his room if the above has no effect....which it hasn't tonight.

I try to be really positive with him as I know it gets far better results, but tis hard when you have a 5 yr old screaming in your face. This is not how the other 2 behaved I know he is a different child, but he is really pushing all the buttons atm and quite frankly it's getting me down now, because I don't know what else to do.

Help!!!!

Don't give in to his screaming, don't pay attention to him because he is making noise, reward him when he is able to calm down and ask nicely for his snack, hand him a glass of water with his apple or whatever he is having. Throw a glass of water over your head to cool down.

Ooh no, I never give in to the screaming

Outwardly I can be very calm when dealing with him, but inside...well

It occasionally 9as it has done this evening) gets to the point where I need to remove him from the room so that he clams down. I went up to him after 5 mins and asked if he was ready to come down and have a drink nicely, he said he didn't know. So I told him that when he was reayd, he could come down. He has now said sorry, has had a drink and appears calm. But appearances can be deceptive
