hi mummy2t me again, I also thought it would be the answer to ditch dummy all together and tried...guess how long i lasted? 1 hour, she screamed and screamed and screamed and became so distressed that i thought who am i taking this away for and the answer was me. If she was a thumb sucker she would sooth herself when she needed and therefore i gave in and gave it back, I am planning to try again when she is a year. I have heard some good tips such as putting pin holes in the dummy or snipping them in half and letting the baby have them and as they don't work properly the baby gives up the dummy by themselves. I've got a feeling that my DD will scream the place down what ever i try and i'm just going to have to be a mean tough old mummy!

Have you tried the air wrap bumper? Worked for us, for a while anyway...

leelteloo · 21/06/2010 22:08

Hi Mcflumpy, whats and air wrap bumper?

mummy2t · 22/06/2010 07:08

My DD was throwing the dummy out of the cot, we bought an air wrap bumper (like a regular bumper but with holes for air) and now the dummy stays in and if she looses it, she can find it herself - will attempt a link:

MAM do a clip which you thread the dummy through and then clip it on to their clothes or at night as we do, their sleeping bag/blanket. The cord is about 3 inches long. This way she can find it herself and put it back in - useful for car journeys too when dummys have been known to have been thrown across the car.......
We don't buy ours from this supplier but just as an illustration:

My DS gave up his dummy about 7 or 8 months - just after he started crawling he could never keep it in and I couldn't keep it clean...but I had already noticed he wanted it less and less so it was no problem.

well tonught she has gone back into her room ( been ill and we had her back in with us ) and upto yet no waking!! she has usually woke up afew times by now! maybe it wasnt the dummy and us waking her! nt sure really as she would wake up when i was awake and it was quiet in room. have given her next size up dummy so hopefully she wont keep losing it. she really does find comfort with her dummy so would prefer to take it of her when she has had enough of it!! bet i am writing a post in 4 years time saying " 4yr old and getting rid of dummy" lol

Sorry was away for a bit there, as notnearly has posted, the airwrap bumper was a godsend for us. DD is now 1yo and we still have it on, only issue we now have is likes to 'post' her dummy either under or over it so I have to litter the cot with a few dummies so she can get another one, works until she runs out but sometimes buys an extra hour in the
morning! Hope you find a solution soon.

Are dummy chains safe to use in the cot? I always wondered about this...

mummy2t · 22/06/2010 21:39

she has her dummy on one at mo but i havent clipped it to anything cause if i put it on her sleep suit and she rolls over it would hurt her liring on it the cord is only about 5" long if that, she couldnt come to any harm could she it not been clipped on?? oh god!! i dont know what to do, tell you something i havent relaxed since i got pregnant with ds1 7 years ago! bloody hrd work been a mum! xxxx had a look at the bumper thing, looks fab, might invest in one

Hi, I ditched DS2's dummy at 10 months as he was doing the same thing. We had one night of waaaaaaahhhhhhh and then fine. Go for it x
