My 18m old is driving me round the twist

I have an 18m old, and it has all gone to shit.

He used to go to bed very nicely, he used to be very happy. But the last few nights have been unreal. He has a fit when we put him to bed, it has been getting progressively worse. What used to take about 10minutes of CC, well tonight we are going on for over an hour... I don't know what to do.

he has stopped eating well, he just picks. I can deal with that. I know he will eat when he is hungry.

He wakes at 5am. he wakes at 3am for a hour screaming. You pick him up and he stops instantly and smiles.

I don't know what to do.I was going to give up BF this week, but can't do that any more as it is the only saving grace when he wakes at 5am, we get about 30 more minutes in bed.

I am trying to be consistent and firm, but I am at my wits end.

Help!

Any good advice welcome and good book recommendations valued too.

In the day he is happy as larry. He is a sweet darling boy, but I am a walking zombie.

You may need to take him to the health visitor or doctor for a check up. Could it be he is in pain. Screaming!!

You need to get him check so you can have peace of mind.

I hope you get some rest too.

All the best.....

Bit early, but could it be his back molars coming through?

thatsnotmymonkey · 21/06/2010 21:06

It is the smiles and hugs that let me know that the screaming is more tantruming than pain. I think I will chat to the HV anyway though, just to talk it though though.
He has 14 teeth....are there more to come at this stage. He has never really been bothered by teeth...

I wonder if it could be teeth or even an ear infection type thing that is worse when he's lying down.
Would agree with others that it's worth getting him checked out by doc.

Yup, 20 baby teeth in total.

If its a book you're after, and you think its behavioural rather than illness, then try Toddler Taming. Its fab. Big section on sleep!
