DS normally has bedtime at 7pm, generally gets up about 7am (often earlier) but the last week or so he's chatted/sung/shouted/cried til at least 8pm - do I need to put him to bed a little later, maybe tire him out more before bed so he goes to sleep?

how old is he???

my DD is 2.2 and goes to bed at 6.30, she frequently chats to herself for a while, she needs the wind down time before going to sleep to process the day.

If he's happy then I would just leave him, if not then maybe give him a book? put him to bed earlier if he's overtired? depends on his age really.

he's 19months. If he were just chatting I guess I wouldn't mind so much, but often he starts shouting and crying for me.....am I being totally manipulated naive here?

i would try drpping the nap

RhinestoneCowgirl · 18/06/2010 20:43

There is apparently a sleep regression at 18 months... (I wouldn't know as mine have both been such rubbish sleepers that they didn't have anything to regress from)

DD is 18 months and there is no way that she would get through the day without a nap, but all children differ in their needs for sleep.

Seona1973 · 18/06/2010 20:57

I would say it is too early to drop the nap. My lo's never went to bed as early as 7pm although they didnt go to bed particularly late. Somewhere between 7.30pm and 8pm has been the norm since my 2 were small (now 3 and 6)

Mumcah · 18/06/2010 21:48

On the other hand he could be overtired and finding it hard to wind down.So maybe do a wind down activity before bed?

Mumcah · 18/06/2010 21:50

Sorry meant to add...try putting him to bed earlier.especially as his nap is quite early in the day so should definitely be tired.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 20/06/2010 13:11

thanks for advice ladies, we've tried in the past to put him down earlier but it did result in earlier waking so I think the length of nap is fine as is length of sleep

we always do ITNG, bath, book with bottle, bed...maybe dropping the tv will wind him down a bit easier
