7 week old sleeping in bouncy chair

My ds is 7 weeks and during day time naps I have been putting him in the baby bouncer chair. Someone told me I could have been damaging him by doing this.

He sleeps in moses basket at night, but I don't want to use the same thing for during the day - I'm sure he woudln't know the difference, but I'm trying to keep day and night time things different as he's sleeping so well at night.

Can anyone advise?

i dont understand how that could damage him??!! my DD is 8 months and still has her day nap in her bouncer in the living room, and her cot at night, i had her in her basket at night when she was young too.

dont think your doing anything wrong! sounds perfectly normal! i think you sound like your doing a grand job, dont worry about what other people say, lot of trollop most of the time, x

How could you possibly damage him? The only situation that springs to mind is if older brother or sister comes along and launches him out of it! (Mine tried but failed, I think manufacturers design them to be sibling-proof)

I did what you do, despite HV saying that the boucy chair didn't support dcs back.

hv's have too muchto say somtimes, does my head in! just little things that are just over the top, my DD loves her naps in her bouncer and shes 8 months and perfectly fine! x

funnysinthegarden · 14/06/2010 11:22

bouncing chair for daytime naps is fine. Moses basket for night is fine.

Net doctorabout half way down

AlCrowley · 14/06/2010 11:29

It's best for hip and spine development for babies to sleep laid out flat. Being scrunched up is also a cot death risk.

Same reasons that leaving babies in car seats for too long is not advised and why travel systems are such a bad idea.

funnysinthegarden · 14/06/2010 11:38

the OP's baby is 7 weeks old.......

glasgowmandy · 14/06/2010 11:55

i agree with alcrowley but the bouncer i have for my DD is a bigger one than what i had for her when she was only wee, she can stretch out in it and lay flat,
but as for ops baby being 7 weeks theres nothing wrong with it

wonka · 14/06/2010 12:06

If you've been advised by a health professional who has seen your bouncer? why would you ignore that and not carry your mosses basket down stairs in the morning, they are not exactly heavy?

You could lay him on the floor to create a sense of night and day. Never heard about risks myself.

Pattie16 · 14/06/2010 12:15

Its ok, can't see what the problem is, baby will eventually grow too big for it anyway. I used to put DS on sofa, wedge a big cushion under the seat cushion so he wouldn't roll off it. He had room to stretch and move in his sleep and I could keep a eye on him too. I think he knew the difference between night and day because of this, hence he was a great night sleeper. Take no notice, go with your own good instincts.

funnysinthegarden · 14/06/2010 12:16

My moses basket was really heavy.........

MrGsmummy · 14/06/2010 13:25

Thanks all, feel reassured now - he's only in for about an hour at a time anyway so don't think it could really do any harm!
