My nine month old boy keeps putting his whole hand in his mouth to the point where he gags himself. He does it increasingly when hes angry or frustrated ( such as being placed in his playpen). Should i ignore it so he doesnt think its a good way of getting my attention or should i constantly take his hand out of his mouth when he does it ?

He's never actually sick but hes not far off!

I think it's fairly common. My DS1 (now 2.4) used to do it a lot. It's comfort and I also think it's partly teething (seems to start happening around the age you are talking about...). My DS1 used to do it quite a lot in car journeys and he would actually stick his fingers far enough to make himself sick! We used to shout at him, move his fingers away (not always possible in the car) and then we realised nothing we were doing was stopping it so we tried ignoring it. It's really hard though. Just have to accept that if he was going to make himself sick, so be it. He outgrew it eventually. He still has his fingers in his mouth now when he is teething but rarely makes himself sick. Ignore and it will stop (eventually!).
