2 1/2 year old keeps taking nappy off in bed in the morning

My son isn't potty trained yet - but since the weather has turned nice we had a few days in the garden without a nappy on. I don't think he's quite ready yet to be potty trained as still peed on the floor. However, there is obviously a fascination with toilet behaviour and he has recently started taking his nappy off in bed early in the morning or before he goes to sleep. I am sick of changing wet and pooey sheets. He was in a cot until 2 days ago and we thought the distraction of a bed and not being stuck in a cot might help, but this morning it happened again. Any advice would be VERY welcome - has anyone else been through this? Should I put a potty in his room or would this lead to night get ups and a messy room and messy sheets? Help!

Mabey he might be ready. Give potty training a go for a week or 2 see how it goes. My dd 3.3years was like that when i began potty training her a month and a half ago, just peed on the floor, did not seem to understand anything really, now she is very good, dry most of the day, occasionally asks for the toilet, i have to remind her and take her there but we are getting there.

DD found out she could remover her nappy. She was nowhere near being ready to train so we would put her nappy on back to front then a pair of knickers on top.

My 2.8 yr old is doing this constantly, pissing and shitting on the floor, in the bed, under the kitchen table....but he's not really able to potty train due to a speech delay and chronic bowel issues. Its driving me crazy and the house stinks!
As its much worse at night time, the only thing I've found that works is nappy then tights then a vest fastened over that and pants on top. He gets through every thing else.

My twin boys started to do exactly the same thing - they are 2.9 so not much older than yours. It all coincided with the weather getting warmer and them starting to want to take clothes off to play outside and use potty/wee in garden. About 2 weeks ago I switched to those pull-up pants that are a bit like a cross between proper pants and a nappy iykwim.

I got really fed up of wet/pooey nappies being removed and strewn around bedroom first thing in the morning so have started leaving pull-up pants and potties in their room. Most mornings if they wake up before me there is wee in the potty instead of on the floor and they have now got the hang of putting their pull-up pants on themselves. The whole process has taken 2 or 3 weeks but I am now pretty confident that there won't be a wee/poo fest everywhere when I get up in the morning! I was v sceptical about pull-ups but so glad we have tried them.

Alicat
My DS turned 2 last week and has done what you describe a couple of times over the last few months... But I double wrap him now, wrap nappy then a pull up on top and that has stopped that in his cot first thing (also never wet sheets now). BUT he still does it running around the house now sometimes (with only a wrap nappy on), but fortunately I have managed to catch him before any damage. Have just ordered a potty, should arrive today. Am going to gently introduce the idea of potty.... watch this space!

Dry bed this morning! Put nappy on back to front + pull up nappy + popper vest! Fort Knox of the the bottom region and it did the trick. Fingers crossed it will last. Will tackle proper potty training in a couple of months on holiday. Thanks again everyone.

yay to less washing!!

My little girl does this too!
She is however, in the throws on toilet training. We have put nappy sheets under her sheet. And we check on her before we go to bed. Also leave potty in her room and just attract her attention to it!?!!?!?!?
