At what age can toddler/baby safely sleep in same room?

I have a 2 1/2 year old DD and 3 month old DS. They will be sharing a room, but I'm worried about leaving toddler and baby in a room together all night unsupervised. We all know that you shouldn't leave a toddler with a baby. But at what point is this ok? Currently DS sleeps in a moses basket in our office. But this won't last too much longer as he will need to get into his cot, which does not fit in the office. But, said toddler is perfectly capable of climbing into that cot in the middle of the night to join him.

Has anyone else had two syblings in one room at ayoung age? If so, how young? And what precaustions did you take if any?

I had put ds with dd1 when he was 1 and she was 2.4. She did get into his cot a couple of times and go to sleep with him other than that I had no trouble. at 3 she would some time get in with dd2 3 months old and the only problem I had was her trying to cuddle her a bit hard and now dd2 is nearly one if dd1 get a bit vigourous I hear about it. We still keep a baby monitor on for this reason.

The other good this in that as ds and dd2 got older they like to pull hair, faces etc and this has definitely cooled dd1 from visiting them when they are in bed.

DS slept in his own room from about 2 weeks old. Like Motherinferior, mine was just way too noisey to sleep in the same room with. We had one of those breathing sensor monitors, so can't see any reason why he needed to be in our room (anyway, sleep was impossible when he was in our room). Anyway, I would not have known if he had stopped breathing whether I was awake or asleep (other than by the alarm).

New baby due in 4 weeks time. DS is 2.3yo, and baby will go in with DS fairly soon (weeks, not months).

I guess we all just have to do what works for us.
