if a baby started walking 4 weeks ago, how many steps would they be taking now?

soph took her first steps 4 weeks ago on holiday, and can now walk maybe 30steps at a time.

i saw a little baby, younger, but hey, walking today. i asked the mum when she started walking, she said 4 weeks ago. she was walking so well, proper steps, and practically running.

soph walks all stiff.

am getting concerned.

she is 19months btw, and has hypermobile joints.

depends on the child. my friend's baby started walking and did a few steps here and there, then stopped completely. 6 weeks later he started again and there's no stopping him!

ds3 started walking about a month ago too, and now mostly walks everywhere but still crawls now and then, and is wobbly on slopes and loses his balance now and then too

soph still mainly crawls.

i know i'm going to keep worrying, especially as she is pretty loose jointed i nher ankles, knees and hips.

she took some steps back in feb, about 3 weeks later took 3 more then nothing till may.

saw Hv this morning, she agrees that dd4 seems stiff when walking, and has said if i feel she needs it, ask for a referral back to the hospital.

Hi misdee! M has been walking for 3 months now and its been very slow development, 1-2 steps for about 3/4 weeks, then he was walking more but even now he falls over a lot and is very wobbly. He can walk quite far - 5 minutes into town and back but not without falling over. He is a definite toddler!

Hi misdee,
DD also has hypermobility in most joints but also low muscle tone in her trunk too. She finally walked at 20 months and was similarly very slow to get going properly. She wasn't keen on walking where they was nothing to hold onto iyswim. It has been very slow progress but is getting better all the time although still not as steady as her peers!

With hypermobility it just takes a lot longer to strengthen the joints and she may be stiffening her limbs to support her joints better?

Well done to your DD though - you must be so pleased she is on her feet
