My DD (14 months) started throwing up suddenly yesterday, with very runny diarroea. Since yesterday afternoon, she's thrown up everything she had eaten previously. I havnt fed her anything since then, which has been around 24 hours. Even water comes straight back up.

I have taken her to the doctors this morning. the gp checked her out and said her ears, throat and chest are fine, it must be a viral infection and just to keep giving her plenty of fluids and no food or milk.

Since coming back from the surgery, she slept, and then woke up and has just laid on the sofa without crying or movement, just looking at me or the tv. She keeps dropping off to sleep, and has felt really warm so Ive given her paracetomol.
Shes here now, sleeping next to me.
Im trying really hard to stay calm but Im really beginning to panic.

Is her behaviour normal for a viral infection?

What shall I do? Is the gp right?

Im just sat here crying and feeling useless.
Please help.

Oh goodness you poor thing. My DS (9 months) had a viral bug like you describe last month and it was awful.
For what it's worth his projectile vomiting only lasted one day - but it took a good week before his vile nappies ended.
We ditched all solids as soon as he began being sick and I breast fed him little and often to keep him hydrated. Every one and a half hours through the first night which was fun.
He too was hot, quiet and utterly listless the first day. It was very scary to see. But he was much less so the days afterwards. We also had some diralyte (sp?) hydration fluids but he never took much of those. Am not sure what the protocol is if your little one drinks formula, I think unlike breast milk, that it can make them worse, but I don't know for sure, you could try looking at old threads on the children's health section or try NHS direct.
You poor things, I hope this thing passes soon. Good luck and chin up.

Is she keeping some water/liquid down? (Try a tiny bit of diluted apple juice at a time.) If not (for a few hours), then get her back to the GPs. My DD had to go on a drip (at hospital) at 20m as she had something similar and couldn't keep fluids down.

My 2yr old DS had this a couple of weeks ago and it was horrible. He seemed to get better after 3 days of being sick but it has taken at least a week for him to get any appetite back. I would suggest that if you are very worried and want reassurance to phone back the doctor surgery or NHS24. They won't mind reassuring you or even giving a 2nd opionion as your child is ill.
