Can I just come on here and YIPPEE about my DD's development!

My DD had a rough start to life and was diagnosed with Hypoxic Ishemic ecephalopathy grade 1 and was in NICU a week following birth. Basically it's oxygen starvation at birth but grade 1 often means "normal prognosis" but you just have to wait and see how she develops.

Anyhow she is now exactly 4months old and in advance of many of her peers developmentally! She is rolling over, almost sitting up (needs one finger to support her!), gurgling, cooing, grasping even starting using a sippy cup (although messily- but defo getting the hang of tilt to get the liquid).

I am just so happy and excited, I had to share! It is such a relief. I suspect DD might have inherited DH's GENIUS brain which means even if the oxygen starvation knocked off a few brain cells then she is still gonna be pretty bright! Fingers crossed she carries on along this fab trajectory. We are still be monitored by the hospital and shortly she is going to start being seen by the neuro-development team but I think she's gonna be fine! What a relief!

Can't really boast too much in RL about it as my friends babies are all a bit older than her and not as advanced (and never had the same issues in the beginning)! tee hee!

forgot to add she bears weight on her legs incredibly well too and has done for ages, they rarely buckle- she is going to be crawling/walking in no time- yikes!

Yey baby Thandeka! Some rather well deserved proud mummy moments there

Thandeka · 08/06/2010 14:05

Thanks Poppet45- is great!

She is trying to do sit ups now, and baby breakdancing where she tries to do the caterpillar on her back and shifts around the mat! is very funny to watch.

My 8 month old isn't rolling over, but I think that's laziness on her part so she's doing really well

LaCerbiatta · 11/06/2010 09:17

Great news Thandeka. I followed some of your posts after your dd was born and I'm really happy for you. What a relief! My ds is nearly 4 months and is way behind! He's not even holding toys properly yet....

potteringon · 11/06/2010 09:55

She also doesn't sleep! (well catnaps but often no proper sleep in day really- a friend said that is a sign of G&T- well yannoo probably isn't but heck it makes me feel better- [exhausted mummy emoticon!]

  • was it your dh in a wedding dress at glastonbury last year? - nearly that time again - we're not going with 8 mo DD in tow, how about you?
Thandeka · 12/06/2010 08:55

Yes it was!!! Yeah I was 7 weeks pregnant last year and very sick, Glastonbury wasn't fun I was in bed by 11 every night! This year we are not going as at the time tickets were released we weren't sure how breastfeeding was going and the thought of trying to sterilise bottles on site meant we thought we better not risk it! As it happens bfeedibg is going great so we prob could have gone but no matter. Dh is determined to take her next time (and I might not go and have a few days off!)

Thandeka, that's bloody excellent, well done your DD! (I remember your story well).

My DD didn't roll for mooooonths, seriously, she was about 10 months before she did it with any regularity and certainly didn't sit til 6 months.

YOu must be so pleased, and rightly so.

Thandeka · 12/06/2010 20:20

Cheers withorwithout you! it's very funny at the mo she seems to have forgotten how to roll from her tummy onto her back (which is how she started rolling) and keeps rolling from her back onto her tummy, then after a bit getting stuck, starting to cry, having to be rescued and then as soon as she is on her back again rolls straight back onto her tummy! Daft girl!

Sorry for not checking back sooner, thandeka. I was 27 weeks, so passed the tired and nauseous stage and obviously pregnant to look at, but not yet too uncomfortable. DP carried chairs everywhere and we kept back from the stage. I had no more trouble sleeping there than I was doing anywhere else (pg insomnia and just mild discomfort).

Glad to hear everything is going so well, including BF - we had ups and downs with that, but are now on the weaning stage. Prefer the EBF, to be honest.

Not sure we'll be going to Glastonbury with DD any time soon - we'll probably try camping somewhere else for a night or two first.

Could have written your last post - since she's been sitting, DD's rolling has regressed

mrspear · 16/06/2010 19:36

Very well done to baby. My DS was 10 weeks early and had huge bleeds on both sides of the brain and i too want to shout from the roof tops about his development - he is doing so well. So i understand you perfectly

SomeWhereOverTheRainbow4 · 18/06/2010 09:51

Oh That's lovely news!!! So so so pleased for you! You must be so proud and happy! xxxxx
