Hello
I'm just looking for some advice on stopping my toddler using bad words which I'm ashamed to say he has copied from me, I have tried ignoring the naughty words, telling him off and trying to explain to him. However my son is only 2 years old and he doesnt really understand the words themselves and doesnt understand why mummy doesnt like him saying them as he has just copied from what he has seen. I have stopped using bad language as much as I can around him but when my toddler is bored or frustrated he gets into saying it frequently.
HELP.

I think you answered your own question!

wink

Children follow the behaviour they see and hear around them, so you need to model exactly the language you want your child to use.

If the word /s are already in his/her vocabulary, ignore them completely whenever s/he says them.

Otherwise your toddler will pick up your anxiety and realise that really is something special and powerfulabout the words -- that will only make the problem worse!
