Fiddling with her bum all the time

DD is 3 late August.

She seems to constantly be picking, digging itching at her bum at the moment-I have treated for worms 3 times now even though I have seen no sign of them on her bottom or poos. Including the linen/towels and hoovering her matress and carpets. She poos normally once or twice day, no sign of constipation.

We are struggling to get poos on the potty and have lots of accidents but this has improved greatly in this last week.

She doesn't seem to be red or sore down there, there is no sign of anything but a normal little bottom. If I ask her whats up with it she isn't keen on letting me look and if i ask her to stop it she denies it. For the most part I have ignored it as I cant see medical reason for it. I am washing her hands like crazy.

Should I take her to doc, i'm not keen on her being examined there if it not needed. is this a common habit for 2-3 yr old and if so how do I stop it?

Your daughter sounds very much like my son. He's been out of nappies for 4 weeks now and spends a great deal of time playing with himself and generally exploring every orrifice!! Which is worse because he's a boy and is getting erections all the time.(fine when we're alone but not so good when we have company!) I put it down to the fact that he now has ready access to this part of his body that he didn't when in nappies. Also I think at this age generally its very normal for them to be very curious about their bodies.
I would ignore it and the novelty will wear off.

From what I remember from nannying days, it can sometimes take a few goes to effectively treat threadworms. I'd take her to the GP if I were you.

And don't be worried about her having her bottom examined - remember that's what GPs do all day long. You wouldn't hesitate to ask the GP to look at her ear if she was itching it, would you? So why should it be any different with her bum? She's so little she won't feel any embarassment, so don't worry - take her along and get her treated properly!
