my 23 month old ds has been off his food for 3 weeks. has all the usual symptoms of teething but is it possible to go on for this long? just worried in case he has an underlying problem. he only has one tooth to go the other one appeared a couple of days ago.

Yes I think it can. Molars are big and take a while to come through. My DD has been getting her top molars for nearly a month now. She is off her food and grumpy and has her hands in her mouth all the time. Cannot WAIT till they come through properly and I have my cheerful girl back!

thanks debka thought it might take longer with the molars, am just being paranoid. i feel the same as you i just want my happy little boy back instead of the little grump hes turned into. i've forgotton what his personality is like as its been taken over by this grumpy little man lol

Aww bless the little man, it's so horrible for the little blighters isn't it? Debka is right I think, it can go on for weeks - it does with my son's molars anyway!

You said one of his appearered a couple of days ago with one to go, maybe they're over-lapping time wise? My son's always come through in 2's (top and bottom at the same time).

So jealous that your little one only has one to go though - mine has 8!

3 weeks, pah, that's nothing. DS1 had 10 teeth come thru in the space of 10 weeks.
Not.much.fun.

thanks meandollie i feel a whole lot better knowing this is quite normal. i have been one of the lucky ones to have a couple of days of upset then teeth are through this is all new to me. he has got an ongoing problem with kidney infections so was just worried this was re-occuring i have been on to the docs today to push for his specialist referral quicker and they have agreed. funny thing was while am on the phone to the doctor telling them how he hasnt eaten for weeks he ate a whole plate of food for the first time. i felt like a liar. good job i wasnt on video phone lol

My wisdom teeth are coming through at the moment, and it's taking months! I know that babies probably do things a lot faster, but if it can take months for me it can definitely take weeks for a little one.

addictedtolatte · 03/06/2010 19:33

bertie am going to work on your theory then. i'll be getting some dentists tools and sorting this tooth out myself if it doesnt come through soon sympathies with your wisdom tooth there a killer

My DD's teething cycles are always 3 weeks. She's nearly 12 mo and no teeth yet. She's been teething from@ 4.5 months poor little thing. During those 3 week cycles she's clearly in a lot of pain, especially come mid afternoon. Just wish something would pop through to give her some relief!
