nappy changing/ dressing tips for wrigglers?

Nappy changing time is becoming increasingly difficult/ nigh on impossible with my 9 month old. As soon as I get her lying down, she flips over and scurries away (commando crawler, although gets her tummy up nicely when the nappy is off!). I can sometimes manage to distract her with an 'interesting' object (i.e. something she thinks she isn't supposed to have, like a clean nappy, packet of wipes or doublebase pump) but this doesn't work for long. I'm sure this is the norm for babies this age (and probably lasts a while!) so do you have any tips to share to help? I'm trying to make good use of my reusable nappies, but a disposable is much quicker!! I'm able to get excema cream on if she can 'help' and toothbrushing is managed by having two brushes and interchanging them every few seconds when one gets boring.
Thanks for any ideas!

I find a putting my leg across their body to pin them to the mat works. They don't like it but you get the nappy changed faster.

Hi Belinda

I sympathise - my DD is 13 months and very rarely wants to lie down for a nappy change these days although sometimes a new and exciting toy (like Daddy's printed drinks coaster???) will distract her long enough for me to get the nappy just about done up.

I tried leg across body to pin to mat but didn't work for us - she got very very upset and it wasn't worth it. We have a chair just at the end of her changing mat (it is on the floor) and she likes to pull herself up to stand and I change her whilst standing although I appreciate your little girl probably won't be pulling herself up yet. Otherwise if I can get some cream on her bottom and get her bottom onto a clean nappy I just fasten up the nappy whilst she is sitting up. She likes this much better.

As a last resort I have managed to fasten a nappy on her whilst she was spinning round from her front to her back........

My DD would like a drinks coaster too! Only briefly though. I'll try standing, hadn't thought of that. She's really into standing. It's nearly as exciting as forbidden plug sockets and kitchen bins (I could try changing her there too, I suppose!). I discovered she preferred sitting for the excema creams after weeks of wailing - and this is a battle I do fight as it makes such a difference to her skin. I suppose I have to fight the nappy battle too! I'm worried about my sanity after reading your DD is 13 months, littleduck! I was hoping you'd tell me it'll last a month or so!

I go with the crucifix pose myself

changing mat on floor, one leg either side of mat, put one leg (calf) on each arm and change fast

I had to use this method once at the HV clinic when ds had done an ENORMOUS squishy poo and tried to escape. The HV watched me do it( had a child of her own the same age) and said " thats fantastic, ds has been smearing poo on the floor, he's an utter nightmare to change atm!"

I use washables too

I also sing silly songs and do tummy tickling before we start and lots of kisses afterwards for being good, ds is also 9 months.
