2 year old goes to bed at 7pm - sometimes earlier depending on how early bath time can finish or later if we're out and about etc.

LoveMyGirls · 01/06/2010 20:38

Dd1 is 10 and goes up about 8.30-9 and sometimes is allowed 30 mins of tv, occasionally during hols it's later, earlier if she hasn't be very well behaved.

Dd1 is 4 and has black out blinds so the light night's don't affect her, usually she is up by around 7-7.30pm unless we are out somewhere like a family bbq or party as long as she hasn't got to be up very early the next day I don't mind her being up later.

DanJARMouse · 01/06/2010 20:38

2yr old goes at 6.30pm

4yr old 7pm

5yr old 7.30pm

that is for normal school nights.

Usually weekends go more like 7pm, 7.30pm and 8pm

lovechoc · 01/06/2010 20:40

3yo DS goes to bed at 7pm, but sometimes later (it depends on whether DH is nightshift or dayshift or days off). If we are having a family day then bedtime can be 8pm for DS.
On average though I'd say any time between 7pm and 8pm and he falls asleep between 8pm and 9pm after playing with his toys he just gets into his bed and that's him asleep.

I know what you mean though about the light nights. For as many weeks there DS wasn't falling asleep until 9pm. I was knackered. But recently he is falling asleep a little earlier. Tonight for example he fell asleep at 8.15.

bumbums · 01/06/2010 20:43

My self and most of my friends have bed times for their children ranging from 7pm to 8pm.
I'd say your 4 yr old should have a slightly earlier bed time than the older two. Say 7.30 for the youngest and 8-8.30 for the other two. Do you have black out blinds for their windows? Thats the only way to make the room really dark.
And make sure they all have a proper wind down time before lights off. Stories, or story CDs etc. No tv or computor games an hour before lights out.

martini82 · 01/06/2010 20:45

nearly 2 yr old - at 6 ish
nearly 3 yr old - between 6.30 and 7
6 1/2 yr old - 7pm unless i'm out of special occasion

they dont always go quietly as they all share the same room! i can be running up and down the stairs for a hour or so but i refuse to let them win!!!!!!!

martini82 · 01/06/2010 20:46

oh and they have a black out blind and black out curtains which helps a lot!

lovechoc · 01/06/2010 20:47

DS has black-out curtains for his room but doesn't seem to bother him tooo much. He does eventually go off to sleep.

fidelma · 01/06/2010 20:48

Yes we have blackout blinds and blackout curtains,I just find it hard making them go to bed when it is so lovely outside.

They are allowed to read in their rooms. It is the 10 year old that I am wondering if 8.30 is too early.

The baby is in bed at 7pm.Then I do my rounds reading to the others.(I feel like a boarding house mistress but I like to give them all some time)

I then feel that dh and I need sometime. However I am wondering if 8.30 should be 9pm?

ds (2.8) goes to bed between 7 and 7.30 depending on how early he got up. I find the later evenings actually a help because he's a bit scared of the dark at the moment so I leave his curtains open and he falls asleep in the light.

DD is only 4 months so she goes to sleep when I put her to bed (usually when ds is settled - about 7.30)

Flowergarden1 · 01/06/2010 22:25

DS (4) goes to sleep between 7 and 7.30. During the holidays sometimes it's half an hour later, but rarely later than 8.

littleduck · 01/06/2010 22:52

DD (13 months) goes to bed between 6.30 and 7, later if we have been travelling back after a visit to family or friends away from the local area and have been delayed by traffic. She is usually shattered by then and seems quite happy to be tucked up.

We have blackout curtains at home but on a visit to friends a couple of weekends ago she managed to keep to pretty much the same times even though they have very thin curtains and the sun streamed in!!!

yummumto3girls · 01/06/2010 22:59

7 month old - 7p.m.
6 year old - 7.30
9 year old - 8/8.30

tonight though (school hols) the two oldest stayed up to watch Britains got Talent and went to bed at 10!

KiwiKat · 01/06/2010 22:59

DS (4) we try to get to bed about 7.30 and read stories to him for 1/2 to an hour, depending on how shattered we are. The light is a real problem for us as well, as he's wanting to sit up and read his magazine by himself, then he gets beyond tired ... being firm about the whole thing is essential, or he'd still be up at midnight.

Firawla · 02/06/2010 19:16

somewhere between 6.30 and 7pm for both of mine but both are under 2yrs

teaandcakeplease · 02/06/2010 19:20

My toddler aged 2yrs and 10 months still has a 90 min nap in day and bed at 7.30pm.
My other toddler aged 16 months naps 10.30am and 3pm and goes to bed at 7.30pm, sometimes sooner if especially tired.

Now I've bought one of these my kids are going to sleep quicker and waking at 6.30am to 7am instead of 5.30am It seems to block the light better as sunctioned onto window, it's almost pitch black in there with it on, day or night. Genius invention.

mankyscotslass · 02/06/2010 19:28

DS2 age 4 goes about 7.

DD age 6 goes about 7.15, but reads in bed for 1/2 hour.

DS1 age 8 goes at 8, and reads supposedly for 1/2 hour but longer if I forget to go and check upon him!

MumInBeds · 02/06/2010 19:50

DD aged 7 goes to bed at 6.30pm and reads until about 7pm or a bit later in the holidays.

DS aged 10 goes to his room at 7pm and reads or plays quietly for an hour or two until he needs sleep.

Both of them need more sleep than average I think, but it works for us. There's obviously some flexibility on special events.

winnybella · 02/06/2010 19:57

DD is 16 months old and goes to bed at 8pm.

DS is 8 years old and goes to bed at 9-9.30pm.

DD has blinds in her room, so the light outside doesn't affect her and DS is usually tired enough to fall asleep even with some light coming through the curtains.

8.30 seems sensible to me, although it would be too early for my 8yo.
