He learnt it from my 11year old...yes I have gone mad at him about it and he feels very guilty. My 2.5 year old keeps saying it all the time, its horrible. Should I ....ignore it completely....tell him off for it... or try and turn it into something else like oh my gosh. Help! Hes even walking round singing it to the tune of London Bridge is falling down!

Ignore it - and he'll get onto something else (and probably worse) in no time...

I turned it into 'oh my goodness'.

Ds got it from my dad. I didn't make a fuss but just repeated oh my goodness everytime he said it. It took a few weeks but worked in the end.

Ignore it, he will stop.

My wake up call about my own language came when I braked hard because someone came round the corner of our single track lane going too fast and DS said helpfully "Jesus Wept Mummy".

thats so funny humphrey!
Hes been doing it for about 3 weeks already!
I must admit that I said to him...'not oh my god...oh my goodness' and he flipped out at me screaming 'not oh my goodness' I think he senses my fear over it and thats why he keeps saying it...he says it in context though!

DD (3) trapped her finger today and exclaimed 'oh bugger it all'. I was torn between laughing and admonishing.

Just ignore it and don't repeat it. It'll go soon enough.

MathsMadMummy · 29/05/2010 21:16

DD has said "oh my dod" and "oh dudda" (bugger) at around the same age as yours. we just exaggeratedly say alternatives and now she always says "oh my woooooooooooooooord" which is terribly cute!

you need to make it clear to your older child that he is an influence on his brother, but that it's a good thing - he just wants to be like his big brother after all! try and put a positive spin on it.

My DD said 'Oh my God' from about 22mth after my mum exclaimed that when changing a poo filled nappy. It took a good few weeks, but eventually she did stop saying it and now we look back and laugh!

ninedragons · 30/05/2010 12:43

Yep, I think at that age they pick it up from the nappy table, certainly in our household. I saw DD check the nappy of her baby doll and exclaim "Jesus Christ on a bike!"

She has switched to "oh dear, oh dear, oh dear" which probably washes better with the nursery staff.
