Dummy help!!

DS is now 7 weeks (was 4 weeks early and in scbu)

has had a dummy to help his silent reflux but now on gaviscon it is much better

was just using it to stop the acid and drop off to sleep it fell out.... now as soon as it falls out he is wide awake screaming and now even finding it hard to keep in when he is awake and is contantly looking for it all the time, even when before he would be happy awake watching the world go by....

so will he learn to keep it in (soon)? or do we ditch it??

help!!

Hmmmm... its a tricky one. I used dummies with both of mine and they've been a bit of a godsend at bed time. They didn't wake up screaming if it fell out (although the youngest sometimes does not- he@s 19 months old) and I think if they had done so when so young I would have probably stopped using them.

Sleep is hard enough to come by when they are that age without adding to your problems...

Have you tried different brands of dummy? They have lots of different shapes and sizes of teat. Maybe your DS would be better suited with another type.

You can buy a soft toy with velcro tabs on it's paws that you can attach the dummy to, so he'd have something to hug and the dummy wouldn't fall out of the cot onto the floor (you don't want to be scrabbling around under the cot in the middle of the night). I'm not sure what they're called but they probably sell them on ebay.

Also lots of the Steiff comforters have knotted 'feet' or paws that you can tie the dummy onto.

Good luck. I am dummy fan, though no-one I knew used them, it's been great for my DS.

Here's a site with some of the comforters that "hold on to" the dummies. (Cuppateajannice mentioned them above).

www.sleepytot.com/shop_products/sleepytot_baby_comforters.phtml

(sorry but don't know how to link it with a "click" - so you'll have to copy & paste the web address.

Hope it helps.
Someone also once suggested to me to put a few dummies scattered around the cot, so they can find them easier in the night. Don't know if it'll work as I haven't had to try lately.

Good luck. x
