behaviour management

Hi I am thinking of setting up a number of behaviour management courses for parents and paid carers. In my practice as a therapist I am often required to give help and practical advice. I have 30 years experience in this field and although I am aware of courses for professional staff, I can rarely find help for parents. I am including here safe physical handling as well. I hold Black Belts in several martial arts and am fully aware of the safety implications. Anybody got any ideas?

imho it might be worth taking a look at the BILD website and getting whatever handling you do accred by them, I've done dozens of these courses and it's not 'done' afaik to do something not bild accredited. Sorry if that sounds strange, I know you know what you're doing, it's obv from your qualifications. Just a suggestion.

Courses for parents are desperately hard to find. I used to run a six-week one on ASD, and the uptake on it was huge as there is so little in the communication and behaviour management line that we were offering. It's a massive hole in the market, good luck and well done for trying to fill it.
May also be worth contacting a local college or uni to see if they are willing to offer credits/tie into any of their quals, this may be of interest to paid carers for their training log

Thanks for the advice and I don't mind you checking up on me. I am often in trouble with my superiors and I have never forgotten my early experiences both as one of the first children's nurses in the country, a very young parent and latterly as a therapist. I reckon they'll put me out to grass soon anyway. I also dislike the terms professionals and experts. I have never been able to do my job without consensus. Take care

I would gladly do it for free. Not sure where you are or how easy it would be to get a venue. How many parents would be interested in coming to listen and it would probably need to during child friendly hours, say 10am till 2.30. We could chat somemore if you are interested but I am not sure of the rules. Perhaps you would advise me? Best wishes

Gotta thinking about your comments on navigating your way through the muck. Wondered whether I should organize a conference somewhere aimed at collecting and collating their views and experiences. I did a similar one for parents of children with cancer, was well received and very productive. Alternatively I could produce a questionnaire, publish it on my blog or this site and design a course based on the results. Would welcome your opinion! My Blog has just been done so I am still struggling with the technology a bit. It's at bobdearden.wordpress.com. Best wishes
