10-week-old very sleepy - is it just the heat?

She's had a huge nap (2-3 hours) and I had to wake her up to feed. Now fast asleep again. This isn't normal, she usually only naps on and off during the day - but she seems OK,no temperature, not dehydrated (and she fed well when i woke her up). I'm a natural worrier so please be nice (not even pfb!) - is this a sign of anything worrying or shall i just let her snooze on?

Let her snooze. Most likely a growth spurt!

If you are certain she does not have a temperature and there are not other signs of her being poorly then it is probably nothing to worry about. If however you have ANY concerns then call the doctor and talk it through.

She is very young and they do not always show signs of illness in the same way as an older child would. My DD#3 at 5 weeks ran a high temperature and was sleepy but fed when woken and otherwise seemed fine. She was admitted to hospital for 2 days, on iv antibiotics for 5 days and thoroughly checked out and monitored until they could rule out meningitis. It was not a great time, but thankfully she was fine. I am grateful they were so careful to ensure she was ok.

If she feeds ok and is otherwise well i think it's unlikely to be a problem. Sometimes they do just have sleepy days - balanced out by super awake days! As long as she wakes up ok to feed I wouldn't worry but if she doesn't seem to be rousing properly then take her straight to hospital. If she does wake up ok but has a temp I would also take her straight in just in case.

If you have any hesitation about such a young baby's health then A&E is the best option - don't faff about with your GP

Thanks for not laughing at me! I've taken her temp properly (was just feeling before) and it says 36.7 (in armpit) - that's fine isn't it. But I will keep an eye on it and I won't hesitate to get her checked if she won't rouse etc.
