my dd is 2.4 and prob has no more than 2/3 of a sippy cup of water a day - plus 2 bottles of milk (am and pm). is this enough liquid for a whole day? she's just not interested. i've tried different cups, straws, etc but to no avail!

if she is producing clear, copious wee, then it is enough.

milk is majority water too!

at least half a bottle of wine a night.

Also food has water in. As long as you have lots of wet nappies or wees in the loo, don't worry.

You could of course try making fruit juice lollies - they go down well with reluctant drinkers.

I have a 2.10 year old and she drinks (roughly):

first thing: 200ml of water with a splash of oj

then through the day (approx) 100ml of milk and 150ml of water. At tea/bedtime about another 100ml, sometimes with a splash of juice added.

She eats a lot of wet foods, such as at least 1 yogurt a day, 100ml or more of milk on cereal or porridge. fruit and veg (esp salad veg) also is high in water.

She wees frequently, every 2-3 hours. It is what is known as "white wee wee" in this house(i.e. almost clear)

p.s. some books/advice say you should offer them about 6-8 drinks a day (150-200ml). I think my dd would be pretty much incontinent if I tried to pour that much down her!

thanks ladies.. even you Jareth !
she does have milk on cereal and jellies too...though nowhere near enough fruit and veg, but that's a different story
yes, think she's weeing enough...so will chill and find something else to worry about

I was wondering what a [helpful] emoticon would look like

In answer to your question, DS had about the same til 2 months ago (he's 2.5), and now downs whole bottles of water.

We bought him a flip-top beaker with a straw, rather than a sippy cup, and he drinks A LOT more.
