Help needed - willy-fixated 2 year old!!

Not sure if this is the best place to post but here goes - DS2 (2 next wk) is utterly obsessed with his willy, which I know is normal and I have no problem at all with him having a good fiddle at bath-time etc

The problem is that at night he pulls his willy out of his nappy and then wees everywhere. Every night for a week I have had to change all of his clothes, cot sheet etc, etc. He always wears a vest with poppers and pyjamas (the long-john style trousers iykwim) but still gets in . I have even tried putting the vest over the top of the pj's but it made no difference.

I really have no idea what else to do, his speech and understanding aren't great so I don't think he's ready for potty-training although he does really, really hate having his nappy changed so maybe I should try? I've only just trained DS1 (3.4yr) so it seems so soon.

Any advice very gratefully received!

Ooh thanks - good idea. Once you stopped with the dungarees did he not bother trying again?

My 2.7yo is obsessed too, much more so than his older brother! he did that a couple of times but luckily is now dry at night - thank the lord!

Kewcumber · 13/05/2010 12:46

why do you not think he's ready if he's getting his willy out to wee and hates having his nappy changed (I agree 2 is young but not impossibly young).

Perhaps you could at least start himweeing on the potty or aiming at a ball in the toilet standing up if he enjoys that more!

4daystogo · 13/05/2010 12:47

So Justmooching when did you potty train him? DS1 (3.4) is still not dry at night. Like you ds1 is not bothered with his willy at all - odd.

Kewcumber I don't think he gets it out to wee, just gets it out to play and leaves it sticking out of his nappy and just happens to wee iykwim. Maybe you're right and I should give potty training a go - the thought of being nappy free is v appealing

We potty trained him a couple of months ago. I think we are just lucky though as both boys have bladders like camels! He kept not wanting to wear his nappy at night so after a few mornings of taking his nappy off immediately on getting up we noticed it was bone dry so I risked it. DS1 was exactly the same.

JustMooching · 13/05/2010 12:57

The potty training in the day was a bit easier for him as he spends everyday with a little friend who is 5 months older. he was potty training and my DS2 wanted to copy him, so he did! He still has the odd accident but thats only to be expected at that age.

Kewcumber · 13/05/2010 12:57

well maybe if you see it sticking out ask him if he wants to wee - at least he will start to associate willy sticking out with weeing rather than it just being the norm!

PS my DS was the same(camel bladder) and was dry day and night by 3. Not prone to willy waving though!

JustMooching · 13/05/2010 12:59

If you've only just trained DS1 perhaps he has taken in more than you realise. We had two pottys out at the same time so they could sit together! Why not just leave the potty out when your home and ask him if he needs a wee occasionally, or leave his nappy off and ask every ten minutes or so - gently. If nothings doing after a few days then leave it for a while. Good luck!

hi, i crnt really offer much advice as my 5yrs old ds still loves his willy. We have said that he can play with it upstairs in his bedroom, but no were else.

When he was 3.5 I found him stood at the patio doors with his willy out and pressed against the window! in shock i asked him what he was doin and his reply was he was lettin it look at the birds!

Not much help i know but it always makes me laugh x

pippop1 · 13/05/2010 14:15

That's so funny Ki28.

Reckon you should give it a go with the potty training then.

4daystogo · 13/05/2010 21:27

Thanks all - I may well give potty training a go soon - eek!

good luck!

acebaby · 14/05/2010 11:22

lol Ki28 - sounds like my DS1 (4.10).

OP: Make sure the dungarees are tight! DS2 (2 last week) can get his hands inside his dungarees and access his nappy that way (he has a bit of a poo fixation)
