4 month old started wanting less milk?

My 4 month old daughter used to wolf her milk down with no problems. Recently she has started taking the first half of the bottle as usual, but rejecting the second half after a short winding break. Any idea why? I haven't changed the milk, bottles or anything that I can think of. I'm getting comments from friends/family that I should introduce solids but I'm sure it's too early for that.

She seems perfectly happy - sleeps through the night most nights and is generally a happy smiley baby.

If she was ready for solids surely she would be more hungry not less? You are right that it is probably too early, 6 months recommended these days IIRC.

could be teething. my LO has two at 5 months.

have you tried a faster teat? Taking less milk is not a reason for starting solids as it could put her off milk even more.

I tried faster teats at about 3 months - she went crazy, screamed and wouldn't eat anything. I persevered for a couple of days then went back to the slower teats. Tried again a week ago and the same thing happened. I don't know wht she hates the faster teats so much.

If she's happy, healthy and satisfied I wouldn't worry. If she were breastfed you'd have no idea that she was taking less so if there are no other problems stop stressing. Babies eat more before and during a growth spurt so logically there will be times when they eat less.

I had the same problem he would wolf it down but hit 4 months and could barely get 3oz own him.

I went on for 2 months and i took him to the HV abd she said to change his formula to follow on milk (he was 6 months at this point) as they lose there iron supply between 4 and 6 months and follow on milk has higher iron levels in it.

Since then he has gone back to eating 6-7 oz every 4 hours plus 2 solid meals a day.Speak to your HV about his iron as anemia can leave them with no appetite.Good luck hope this helped.

Possibly doesn't need a winding break? Also at about 16 weeks they start getting more interested in things other than food - if baby's happy and still gaining weight I wouldn't worry.
