3mth old DS2 only turns head to right

We've just started to notice/get concerned about DS2 only turning head to the right. Its only now that I have worn him in the front carrier with him facing outwards that I have noticed that his head is pretty mishapen and looks quite flat on the right side. We've often noticed he always turns head to the right but not paid much attention. But now I think about it, he never turns it to the left, always sleeps with his head tilted to the right, always lies on play mat in the same way and when I hold he sat on my knee to wind or carry him with his head unsupported he always turns it to the right. Incidentally he can hold head upright just fine.
Have had a quick look and got a bit worried when I read about torticollis. Does it sound like it could be? Shall I take him to gP or speak to hv?

Defo take your DS to the gp. In the short term, it will stop you worrying and I'm sure they'll be able to help your DS. My friend's little girl was squashed in the uterus so when born, she had a very stiff neck that would mainly stay towards one side. This also made her face look mishapen and lopsided but once referred, she had an op and they corrected her neck. You could hardly tell.

Thanks. Incidentally his face looks ok, its just the back of his head thats a funny shape

You could try a cranial osteopath too, both my DS' would only look one way when born (both born by CS as both were stuck) - there are things you can do such as alternate the way you lie them in the cot so that you approach from different sides, but I put the dramatic improvements down to our osteopath. I was lucky enough to have one already that was qualified but it should be quite easy to get reccomendations if you ask around?

Torticollis is easily treated, the earlier the better. Insist on being referred to a physio. We noticed DS1 had a very obvious tilt and could only turn head to one side very early on but kept getting dismissed by GP and HVs as something he will grow out of. At 4 months old, we took him to a private pediatrician who took one look at him and diagnosed torticollis. We saw a private physio and got a set of exercises to do on him 3X a day. He used to scream like a banshee when we did it. It was awful but the improvement was amazing and very quick. He's now 2.2 years old and you can still see he has a bit of a tilt (only from the back) but the flatness has mostly rounded up nicely. The pediatrician said the earlier it is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat it while their muscles are nice and soft. Good luck! BTW, we also saw a cranial osteopath but that did nothing... Maybe the one we saw was just not very good!

My gp sent DS to an osteopath as she thought the wait for a paediatrician/physio wouldn't be worth it. He had a frozen shoulder (with similar symptoms) not torticollis and exercises and the osteo helped. He still has a flat head though at 2.6.

i would second an osteopath.
whereabouts are you?
I would highly recommend visiting Stuart Korth if you are near London or Tunbridge Wells

I would defo second a cranial osteopath. It worked a treat for my ds who, as a baby, couldn't lie on his back to sleep. After 2 sessions, he could sleep soundly on his back.

We're just south of bristol. i know a good osteopath so might see what she thinks.
