DS (just 4) never use "I", always replaces it with "my" in sentences. For example "My'm going to a party tomorrow."

is this normal? Should i correct him or do you think he'll get it on his own?

Leave him, he'll get it on his own, ime. Keep modelling it correctly and it'll come in time.

If you keep saying it correctly he'll learn it from hearing you.

DD always said "I'm am" instead of "I am" which was quite cute actually! Studies on child language acquisition show that the brain is amazing at figuring out grammatical rules by itself but until it figures each one out there is no point in correcting it excplicitly - their brain just isn't ready for that particular usage yet. It's the same reason they say 'runned' and 'catched' - and then eventually get it! If you do correct it just make it light-hearted I would say.

mine are 8 and 7 and still say eg "me want" rather than "I want" sometimes. They do know the right way of saying it but also like to say it the old way (it grates on my ears but they have a big grin on their face when they do it !).

It will come in time - just make sure you don't pick up his habit
