is my DD too old for DUPLO at 4?

DD1 is 4.4 and DD2 is 10 months. I am starting to put away all the toys that DD2 will shove in her mouth as she's starting to move around and I wondering what can I get that both DDs can play with. Bought a massive lot of Brio train stuff the other day. But I was also going to buy a big load of Duplo too - then I saw it says 1.5-5yrs as the age range. I'm sure I was playing with DUPLO way past this age. What do you think? Is 4.4 too old for DUPLO?

Don't think so - my ds still alternates between lego and duplo - I have bits of duplo in the car as its less likely to get stuck down the seats etc.

The past year he's more into lego (6yo) - but will still happily play with duplo if its there.

No- I have similar age gap and havent got the little stuff out as ds will eat it. DD plays with her duplo every day... as does ds

Thanks guys. I think I will go for the DUPLO - at the very least I will LOVE playing with it!

You are never to old for Duplo....My 3 love it (the oldest is 11...lol)

My DD was certainly playing with duplo up to age 5 or 6 (she had some of the fairytale range with princesses, witches etc). Did you know you can also use lego with duplo - the clicky bits are designed to fit together? So you can start adding lego to the collection once you think it's safe (or it can be kept out of the way of the littler one).

My 8 & 6 year old play with duplo in preference to the smaller bricks (we have both). They tend to use the Lego in conjunction with other toys and I think they like that they can make something biggish quite quickly with the duplo...

No way, its ageless and timeless imo.

Kewcumber · 07/05/2010 11:13

My 4 year old spurns it but if she likes it - why not? ALternatively you can get large lego which is a little more grown up that duplo but not really tiny pieces like little lego

MrsJohnDeere · 07/05/2010 11:27

My 4yo plays with 'proper' Lego on his own but likes to help my 2.3yo play with Duplo too.

I bet your younger dd would enjoy watching the older one make huge towers from Duplo even now.

dinkystinky · 07/05/2010 12:18

4 year old plays with Duplo on his own and with 1 year old brother but needs help with smaller lego from an adult.

Trafficcone · 07/05/2010 12:19

Oh good Lord no!!! My 9 and 11 year olds LOVE it when we have friends littlies over to play and get the Duplo out! Everyone loves Duplo!

SuperAmoo · 07/05/2010 16:13

Go DUPLO!
