DS not interested in solids

Hi,

Been weaning my 6.5 mo ds for about a month now. We have just progressed to 3 meals a day (with his usual milk feeds) but he still doesnt seem to show much interest in solids. He always gets food before milk (so he must be fairly hungry) however its a real struggle to get him to take more than a few spoonfuls - the mouth stays firmly shut and even with the usual "here comes the train/plane" etc he just doesn't seem to be enjoy it. He always takes a bottle afterwards though. I've been giving him a very varied diet but thought by now it might have got a bit easier - epscially when the other mums I know with babies a similar age rave on about how much they love their grub. Would love to hear from anyone with similar experiences & any tips - I just want us both to enjoy mealtimes! Thanks

It's hard isn't it?

Have you heard about the other approach of just putting a couple of finger food bits out or just letting him pick from your plate, rather than spoon feeding purees? It's called baby led weaning. It can take them a few months to eat what you would call a decent meal but it's not a worry because they are fine on just milk until they're about 12 months old.

Just remember, no honey, no choky things (like whole grapes/cherry tomatoes/small chunks of carrot etc, less than 1g of salt per day and I think that's about it.

Plonk some pasta with grated cheese over the top / steamed broccoli chunk / cheese stick / rice cake, or anything that you're eating infront of him and see what happens.

Important thig is not to stress!
